To My CannonFit Family,

 

After 20½ incredible years of CannonFit being open, I have made the difficult decision to close our doors.

 

Why?

 

I have been offered and have accepted the position of Head Coach for Cross Country and Track & Field at Savannah State University, effective July 1st, 2026. 

 

This was not an easy decision. Coaching has always been my passion—my love. Running CannonFit and helping people become healthier, stronger, and more confident is what I do, and I have truly loved every minute of working with all of you. But after 36 years of coaching and training, and at this stage of my life, I have decided it’s time to make my greatest passion my full-time job.

 

I will continue training everyone through August 15, and I encourage you to stay with me until the very end. I will prorate August’s fees accordingly. Please don’t stop now. I want to continue serving you during this transition, and quite honestly, my family and I still need the income during this time.

 

I have already begun this new role and have been spending countless hours after my CannonFit workdays preparing for the transition. While it has been time-consuming, it has also reminded me how much I love coaching and mentoring young athletes.

 

As I reflect on this journey, so many memories come flooding back.

 

I remember training my very first client, Marjorie Wood, back in 1990. Since then, I’ve had the privilege of working with literally thousands of people. I’ve helped people lose weight, stay strong while battling MS, train for local 5Ks and marathons, recover from injuries and surgeries, slow the effects of Parkinson’s disease, regain movement after paralysis, get on the floor and play with their grandchildren again, and prepare athletes for middle school, high school, and college sports, just to name a few.

 

The list goes on and on.

 

I had the honor of opening Bluffton’s very first fitness studio back in 2005, called Shaping Concepts, which later became CannonFit. That was back when Highway 278 was just one lane in each direction.

 

I still remember our first location - a small 1,200-square-foot space where seven trainers and I somehow managed to train clients all at the same time. We were packed in there, but we made it work.

 

Over the years, CannonFit changed and evolved many times as I tried to keep growing with the industry and provide the best experience possible. Because of that history, this decision has been incredibly difficult. Ending my business and my training career after more than three decades is emotional, and it certainly wasn’t made overnight.

 

But please know this:

 

It’s time for me to follow my life’s passion.

 

I promise to give you everything I have until August 15. I want our final weeks together to be special, and I look forward to continuing to train, laugh, and work hard with you until the very end.

Thank you to every client who has walked through our doors, trusted me with your health, supported my family, and allowed me to be a small part of your journey. The relationships and memories we’ve built over these past 20½ years mean more to me than words can express.
